This chart graphically displays, in stacked bar chart form, the number of application filings per year for each of the past 25 years as of 31-Dec-2023. Each vertical bar corresponds to a filing year, as shown on the horizontal axis. The upper (green) portion of each bar corresponds to the number of marks filed in that year which remain active as of 31-Dec-2023. The lower (red) portion of each bar corresponds to the number of marks filed in that year which are inactive.
Bear in mind that the filing date of an inbound Madrid Protocol application is deemed to be the international registration date of the corresponding Madrid registration; and that it can take weeks or months for a Madrid application to arrive at CIPO. Accordingly, an annual count including Madrid filings may change depending on when the count is done.
